Thanks for joining us for week 2 of Head-to-Head Football Predictions! We’ve been anxious to see the results all week, and we finally have them to reveal (although you could have worked them out yourself, but we’ll pretend you can’t).
In case you’ve just joined us, the rules of Head-to-Head are simple, 1 point scored for Jack or Joe if they predict the correct result for each match (e.g. Liverpool to win), and a score of 3 points is awarded if they predict the correct scoreline (e.g. Liverpool to win 2-1). Each game holds a potential maximum 3 points, as predicting the correct scoreline overwrites the 1 point you’d gain just for getting the right result.
Week 1 Results
Jack: 4 points – 4 correct results, 0 correct scores
Joe: 6 points – 4 correct results and 1 correct score
Not a bad first display from Jack and Joe, with both predicting 4 correct scores. However Joe’s 2-1 scoreline prediction for the West Brom v Sunderland game fires him into the lead. He’s requesting more points for predicting 2 goals from Lukaku, but we’re not having any of it.
Week 2 Predictions
Chelsea v West Brom
Jack: 2-0, Chelsea will be stung by their last minute loss to Man City last weekend and I don’t expect them to make any mistakes against West Brom who have been much improved under Steve Clarke. Still they wont have enough to beat the blues this weekend.
Joe: 3-1, As Lukaku is on loan from West Brom I don’t think he will be able to play again his parent club, so that’ll be a big blow for the baggies. Chelsea lost to Man city in their last Premier League outing, but they’ll bounce back easily at home.
Everton v Reading
Jack: 0-1, Reading are fighting for survival and need to start picking up points. After losing to Norwich last week I wonder if Everton are starting to flag a bit in the run in to the close of the season, their star players are probably thinking about next season at a new club which also wont help.
Joe: 2-1, Everton did what was expected of them in their FA Cup replay against Oldham, and have the momentum going into another home game against an underachieving (in my eyes) Reading side.
Man Utd v Norwich
Jack: 2-1, Norwich will be high after last weeks impressive win over Everton, I can see them scoring against United but since this is at Old Trafford I could see the ‘Fergie time’ coming into play here with a last minute winner.
Joe: 2-1, Norwich did very well against Everton last time out, and will be looking to cause an upset at Old Trafford. Man United aren’t exactly easy to beat though, and although Norwich will be up for it I can’t see United losing this one.
Southampton v QPR
Jack: 2-2, classic relegation scrap 6 pointer this game. I think it will be end to end stuff all the way through which is why I’ve gone for a score draw.
Joe: 2-1, difficult one to call this, with both teams looking to avoid the drop. I’m going with a home win, just because I feel Southampton will take control of the game in midfield.
Stoke v West Ham
Jack: 1-0, Every single team that has gone to the Britannia Stadium this season has come away knowing about it regardless of the result. I can’t see them giving West Ham an easy game I would back Stoke to grab a win here.
Joe: 1-1, Stoke’s physical play will make it really difficult for West Ham. The hammers are doing ok after almost taking 3 points from Tottenham last time, but for Ronaldo mark 2, I mean Bale.
Sunderland v Fulham
Jack: 0-3, Sunderland are in free fall in the league and if it continues could find themselves in the relegation places. Fulham are where they feel comfortable in mid table, they don’t tend to score many but I think they’re due to smash someone and Sunderland are good candidates.
Joe: 1-0, Sunderland could surprise a few people here and start back on winning ways. Fulham are just the team to do it against, as they haven’t got the best record in front of goal this season. Will we finally see Fletcher and Graham linking up and forming a good partnership?
Swansea v Newcastle
Jack: 1-3, Interesting couple of weeks for Swansea after a 5-0 rout against Liverpool you have to give them their dues for their league cup win and getting into the Europa League next season. For that reason I think they’ll take their eye off the ball against Newcastle.
Joe: 2-0, For me there can only be one winner here, and that’s Swansea. Fresh from their League Cup trophy they’ll be confident and free to pass Newcastle off the park at home.
Wigan v Liverpool
Jack: 0-2, Liverpool haven’t had the best record against Wigan in the last few games and I don’t think this one will be particularly comfortable for them. With Suarez in fine form and scoring goals like the two freekicks against Zenit I think they’ll come through against Wigan.
Joe: 1-2, Wigan have been playing well lately, and will be looking for a run of good home form. Liverpool are looking better than the under-performing side we saw in the first half of the season, and I think will just sneak it thanks to some usual brilliance from the magician that is Suarez.
Tottenham v Arsenal
Jack: 4-3, North London derby’s are always grudge matches and often produce absolutely brilliant games. As you can see I’m predicting 7 goals in this match so I expect this game to be another classic, Tottenham do have the Bale factor though which will put them on top in the end.
Joe: 2-2, This is going to be interesting. If it weren’t for Bale I’d predict Arsenal to thump Tottenham, but since they have him shining and on form they’ll have a great chance. Going to predict a draw as it’s such a close call.
Aston Villa v Man City
Jack: 1-0, I’m predicting a bit of an upset for this one purely to be controversial. Villa have a young unpredictable side so you never know and City are chasing the league so hard their bound to have a slip up at some point.
Joe: 1-2, Last game of the week, and I’m probably going to be desperate for points by this stage. Seems like a bit of a no brainer from first glance, with Aston Villa becoming the whipping boys of the league, but I don’t think Man city have this one in the bag completely. A hard fight with a spark of brilliance needed to win this one.
