Football Predictions: 13th – 14th April 2013

Welcome back to our football predictions feature! This week we’re a day early because we’re so keen to get our predictions out there, and also we were desperate to make up for last week’s utterly rubbish ones (although we still have to wait for the usual time for the results…).

So last week was a bit of a disaster, with only a few points being won between both Jack and Joe. They’ve got to make it up this week with an improved performance, or risk looking stupid, again.

Week 6 Results

Jack: 1 point – 1 correct result, 0 correct scorelines

Joe: 4 points – 2 correct results, 1 correct scoreline

No correct wildcard predictions

Looks like Joe’s gamble on Man City paid off, claiming all 3 points from that fixture. He pulls ahead, albeit marginally, going into this week.

Week 7 Predictions

Arsenal v Norwich – 13/04/2013 – 3pm

Jack: 3-0, Arsenal can jump above their North London rival Tottenham with a win against Norwich. That should be motivation enough for the Gunners against a Norwich side that can’t afford too many slip ups in the battle to stay in the Premier League

Joe: 2-0, Slowly moving towards the drop zone, Norwich’s days in the Premier League may be numbered. I think they’ll just about manage to stay up this season, however Arsenal will make their end of season run in more difficult.

Aston Villa v Fulham – 13/04/2013 – 3pm

Jack: 2-1, Villa had a great result against Stoke last week and if you haven’t seen Lowton’s goal of the season contender it’s defiantly worth a watch on YouTube. The perennial mid table Fulham don’t have anything to play for so Villa should get a much needed 3 points this week.

Joe: 3-2, With a convincing win and goal of the season contender in their last outing, Villa will be full of renewed hope going into this game. Fulham are the perfect opposition to play to try and snatch 3 points and prove to their fans that they have what it takes to stay up. No disrespect to Fulham, they’ll be tough opposition but the fixture has fallen kindly for Aston Villa.

Everton v QPR – 13/04/2013 – 3pm

Jack: 0-1, I’m predicting a bit of a surprise with QPR this week. They got a key result against Wigan last week but are probably still going to go down, think they’ll go down swinging though and Everton are gonna be hit with a sucker punch.

Joe: 1-0, After losing Zamora to suspension, QPR will again have to rely on Remy for goals. He delivered a fabulous strike in the last game, but I don’t think he alone can help them beat a very strong Everton side.

Reading v Liverpool – 13/04/2013 – 3pm

Jack: 0-2, Unpredictable Liverpool as ever last week with a bore draw against the Hammers, I’m guessing the good version will show up at the Madejski stadium. Reading are still scraping away at the bottom of the table but Liverpool should have enough quality to come through here.

Joe: 1-2 We both predicted the Hammers to get hammered (sorry) by Liverpool in the last match, and we were both wrong. A bore draw in the last Liverpool game, which can only mean a completely different performance this time, right?

Southampton v West Ham – 13/04/2013 – 3pm

Jack: 3-1, Southampton are in an excellent vein of form at the moment, I still disagree with their decision to sack Nigel Adkins but Pochettino is doing an excellent job. They should defiantly beat West Ham are probably safe from relegation so don’t think they’ll be too motivated for this one.

Joe: 1-1, Beating Reading was a crucial result for Southampton, who have been rejuvenated since their new manager came in. I agree with Jack, regarding the sacking of Adkins – it was a very harsh and unjustified move. Nevertheless Pochettino is getting good performances out of his players, and I expect this to carry on against West Ham. However the Hammers are prone to keeping scores down for boring draws, so I’ll go for 1-1.

Newcastle v Sunderland – 14/04/2013 – 12pm

Jack: 1-1, Newcastle have a Europa League game to prepare for on Thursday so they might rest a few players for this fixture. Sunderland may be buoyed by Di Canio’s controversial appointment, which to be honest makes no sense as O’Neil is a great manager. Given that I reckon a draw.

Joe: 2-1, North East derby – could be an interesting one. I honestly can’t call this one (not that I can call many games if last week is anything to go by!), but I expect both teams to go all out and play a very physical game.

Stoke v Man Utd – 14/04/2013 – 2:05pm

Jack 0-3, United may have suffered a defeat against City but I can’t see that denting their confidence as they are still miles ahead of their Manchester rivals. Should overwhelm a relegation threatened Stoke at home.

Joe: 1-3, United lost a very important game (for their fans at least, the challenge for 1st place is pretty much over) against City on Monday, so they’ll be desperate to get back out there and smash some goals in. Stoke are at home so I expect them to get a goal.
